Description
Dave, the hunter; Catherine, the gatherer; and their little fish Maya, have spent the last two decades as liveaboard sailors. They can’t imagine a better way to live and sate their adventurous spirits than visiting faraway places on their catamaran Wild One.
That’s because the sailing life and boat life is much more than just crossing oceans. It’s about travel, exploring empty shores and plunging into new cultures. It’s about taking time for your passions and living in harmony with the watery world that buoys, sustains, and changes you.
The Hunter & The Gatherer is sailing cookbook and guide for new and old sailors striving for simple, delicious food, better health, greater self-sufficiency and a tiny footprint on the sea. Inside, the authors share extensive provisioning advice and over 160 simple, delicious boatlife recipes anyone can make with food hunted from the sea or gathered from shore and local markets. It’s for tiny galleys, long passages, perfect beach sunsets, and those times when stocks might be low, but the fish are biting.
Real sailors love The Hunter & The Gatherer in the boat galley. Here’s what they’ve said.
“Vibrant photographs make this a beautiful as well as interesting read, and the recipes I’ve tried are winners. It is as much a teaser for tasting the cruising life as a practical book” – Behan Gifford, Sailing Totem, from the article Books for Cruisers
“We really enjoyed reading the thoughtful words on how to live with a small footprint, and the ethos, strategies and recipes behind it all. The photography is stunning! Chef Scott thinks all the recipes sound delicious. – Eliz and Scott, SV Oyster, @sv_oyster“
“This is a really informative guide for sailors and we’re inspired by the concept of Nude Food! We love the background info the authors have included and the detail they’ve gone into when explaining everything.” Elliot and Anais, SV Nalukai, @the_saltycruisers
“This deliciously-produced book is not only a joy to look at and hold, but is packed with mouth-watering recipes that you can create in your galley using ingredients you can find (almost) anywhere” – Read the full review on Noonsite
“It’s very obvious this book has been written by world cruisers for world cruisers. If you’re just looking for one onboard cookbook then this should be it.” – Two Get Lost, from the blog Best Liveaboard Sailing Books

I ordered two books, one for me and one for my cruising in-laws. This book is a work of art and a very impressive first paragraph after the title page. Such an inspiration.
Camilla De Conto –
The recipes are amazing! I loved all of them. I think they are very realistic for a boat galley and very practical as well. Overall I think it is a special book. I like very much that it is more than just a cookbook and the chapters on provisioning beforehand, help have some practicality onboard. I absolutely love it. – SV Songster, @sailingsongster
