Description

100 Things to See in Tropical North Queensland is the only guide for travellers who aren’t tourists that covers the best of the far north and Great Barrier Reef, written by people who live there. This remarkable part of Australia is home to the oldest rainforest on earth, the world’s largest living organism and three world heritage sites, and that’s just the beginning.

In this guide, author and travel journalist Catherine Lawson, along with partner and photographer, David Bristow, take anyone wanting to explore Tropical North Queensland like a local into the places off the regular tourist trails. Both have spent more than 20 years travelling their backyard by foot, 4WD, train, bike and even in their sailing yacht, Wild One.

100 Things To See In Tropical North Queensland showcases 100 of the best things to see when people travel to the Great Barrier ReefCairnsPort Douglas, the Daintreethe Cassowary CoastAtherton TablelandsCape York and The Gulf Country (plus a few more the authors snuck in). It’s a guide about what to do and where to go, rather than where to sleep or who serves the hippest cocktails.

Inside, you’ll find 100 of the best places and things to see and do at the top of Queensland – from dream-like swimming holes to undisturbed rock-art galleries and outback adventures you’ll never forget.

For every book sold, we’ve committed to taking 25kg of CO2 emissions from the atmosphere by helping to plant native, biodiverse forests in Australia. Find out more here.

Wow, this book set the tone for our TNQ adventure. We’d never have found half the awesome things we did if not for it! Covid ruined our initial plans, but we explored so many incredible things recommended by the authors! Highly recommend.

  2. Robyn B

We got this book before our yearly trip to Mission Beach to escape the cold, southern winter (got over the border just in time!). We’ve got so much out of it, and we’ve been coming here for 9 years now! Thanks so much Catherine and David!

  3. Patrick Totty

I received the book in June, here in California, and was immediately impressed by what the book covers. For Americans, as well as, I understand, most Australians, Cape York is true terra incognita. I wasn’t really aware of it until a few years ago, mostly because it was hardly mentioned in the books I read, and also because those few descriptions I ran across all seemed to render it as a trackless, humid, insect-dominated hell-hole.

Well, your book is smashing that old prejudice to bits. Exploring Eden’s usual beautiful photography and descriptions by insiders who so obviously love the place are making terra incognita very appealing.

    Great read.

I purchased your book ‘100 Things to do in Tropical North Queensland’. Actually I used to live in Cairns and the book was really a trip down memory lane for me. I certainly enjoyed reading it too, it bought back many happy memories. My only suggestion would be to have more details especially for the area around Cairns. There’s just so much to do up there – but I guess to really do it justice would fill a series of books! Thanks for an enjoyable read and for helping me relive many happy memories.
